The Sanchez distillery, a family-owned business in Candelaria Yegolé, Oaxaca, has been crafting artisanal mezcal for over 150 years across four generations. Espadín agave, an ancestor of Sisal and blue agave used in tequila, is one of the few cultivated species, making it the most common in Oaxacan mezcal. It yields mezcals that are smoky, aromatic, and full of character.
